Facebook Member WordPress Plugin – Find proper URL

January 25, 2012
By @NetCrunched

Facebook Members is a WordPres Social Plugin that enables Facebook Page owners to attract and gain Likes from their own website. It uses Facebook Like Box.

See how many users already like this page, and which of their friends like it too. Read recent posts from the page Like the page with one click, without needing to visit the page. Get more visitors and more traffic to your site by getting more Facebook Fans.

I mainly receive a request on what value to put for “Facebook Page Name“? Please find here below some points:

Choose whatever is after http://www.facebook.com/…. (Please follow below steps to verify your FB page URL).

Step 1) If you got Facebook PageName then just put the same. i.e. “NetCrunched” or “WordPress“..

Step 2) Else put complete URL as mentioned below:

Step 3) Please do not put #! as a Facebook page name if you find one.

Step 4) Make sure your Facebook page doesn’t have any restrictions. (of course you can set it if you need :) )

I hope this helps.

Hi, pasting /groups/143347932368063 into the page name field results in “Could not retrieve ID for the specified page. Please verify correct href was passed in.” being displayed on my WordPress site. Any ideas?

    • http://netcrunched.com/ NetCrunched

GDay ebwilliams, Facebook Members plugin doesn’t support facebook groups. It’s only available for facebook pages.

      • Phiip Yim

Mmm I am pointing to a member page and I get the same error message

        • http://netcrunched.com/ NetCrunched

Could you please share your FB page URL? I would like to debug it at my end.

  • Phiip Yim

    G’day Mate,

The WP Plugin for the twitter or facebook plugin does not have the same content as the downloads on your pages. Not sure which does not match I think twitter as once I took from your sight versus WP Plugin it worked out of the box.

    • http://netcrunched.com/ NetCrunched

Sorry but I didn’t get your question. Could you please explain in detail?

      • Phiip Yim

Ooh I downloaded plugin from WordPress Plugin directory. This was different than the files I downloaded from your website. Please double check they are in sync i.e., the latest versions are in both locations.

        Great Plugin.

        • http://netcrunched.com/ NetCrunched

Thanks Phiip. Try downloading current version from WordPress repository only. Btw, from which page have you downloaded plugin before?

  • Daniele

Hi! Pasting ‘danielenicolidotcom’ into the page name field results in “Could not retrieve I…” Can you help me?

    • http://netcrunched.com/ NetCrunched

GDay Daniele, Could you please share your FB page URL? I would like to recreate it locally.

  • Audra Marie

Howdy, I can’t seem to get this to work. The title and the plugin credit show, but not the like box. Here’s my facebook page url: http://www.facebook.com/audramsilva and my website: http://www.audrasilva.com/

    • http://netcrunched.com/ NetCrunched

GDay Audra Marie, It should work by putting only “audramsilva”. I don’t see any issue. You may want to check your page’s privacy policy. It should be public.

      • Audra Marie

Well, bummer. It doesn’t seem to want to show the box. :( Something must be interfering with it. Thanks for your help.

        • http://netcrunched.com/ NetCrunched

Hmm. I just tried it on my blog and it’s working perfectly fine. In mean time, i’ve updated this page with some detailed info. You may want to take a look at this.

GDay sandro2. I just tried “pages/we-cookcom/155344254515324″ and worked for me. Do let me know if you still see an issue after putting above.

Hi, I have the same issue, my page is https://www.facebook.com/pages/Daniele-Buccheri-Videography/279931572062067 and I put pages/Daniele-Buccheri-Videography/279931572062067 but it does’nt work :(
    Thank you

    • http://netcrunched.com/ NetCrunched

GDay DanieleBuccheri. I’ve just tried with BuccheriVideography and it worked for me. Could you please try putting only BuccheriVideography?

  • Lovebuky

Thank you. Your pluggin worked for my website http://www.imprisonedshow.com. God bless you.

    • http://netcrunched.com/ NetCrunched

      Thank you.

  • Amine

Love the widget, I tried several plugins and yours is definitely the best.

The sad thing is that I won’t be able to use it, since I need it to work with the Dynamic Widget plugin. It didn’t recognize the Widget ID.

Hope this will be fixed in the future, and then I’ll definitely make the switch.

    • http://netcrunched.com/ NetCrunched

GDay Amine. Thanks for sharing your vote. I’ll try to add that option in my next release but sorry I don’t have any timeline yet.

  • Cyndi C.

Works better than any I’ve tried! lovely! (see http://www.rivertunes.net, http://www.cyndicravenmusic.com) .. BUT I may have to bail on it unless there’s a way to put your sidebar widget on more than one sidebar. I’m using more than one layout… different sidebars have different content. One I install on sidebar of one layout, it disappears from my widgets, so that I can’t use a 2nd time. Any help here? Thanks!

    • dubcomm

I ran into the same issue, so after a little searching I found this gem:
      http://coffee2code.com/wp-plugins/duplicate-widget/  it’s working for me!

      • http://netcrunched.com/ NetCrunched

GDay Ty Dubcomm, Thanks for sharing.

    • http://netcrunched.com/ NetCrunched

GDay Cyndi. Thank you. Currently yes, it doesn’t support more than one widget. Sorry about that.

  • Montikid

I’ve tried it several times and can’t get it to work.  My page is facebook.com/CoachMari, I have no restrictions set for the page and it still won’t work.  I get the “Like us!” text and the Plugin credit, but no widget, only “Could not retrieve id for the specified page. Please verify correct href was passed in.”

    • http://netcrunched.com/ NetCrunched

GDay Montikid. I’ve just tried putting “CoachMari” as facebook page and it worked fine on my blog.

  • DanieleBuccheri

    Hi,

thank you, now its working, but the only problem I get is that the people that likes are duplicated, please check at:
     http://danielebuccheri.com/wordpress/
    Thank you.

    • http://netcrunched.com/ NetCrunched

GDay DanieleBuccheri, I’ve just visited your blog. Do you still have the same problem? I don’t see any duplicate.

Hi can you check my website and FB link seamusorourke.com & https://www.facebook.com/seamusVorourke I’ve just put seamusVorourke into the Facebook Page Name fields but with no joy so far :-(

    • http://netcrunched.com/ NetCrunched

GDay Ronan, I’ve just visited your blog and it seems it’s working fine for you now. :)

  • Cliff

Gday. Love the widget, as was working fine, until my client changed their FB page from “…pages/etc” to “https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001729494914″.  Is this a restriction thing?  I tried with and without the “facebook.com”.  Any ideas?  Thanks in advance.

    • http://netcrunched.com/ NetCrunched

GDay Cliff, It seems the URL which you have provided is for profile page. This plugin doesn’t work with profile page.

  • http://twitter.com/OhmLabMusic OhmLab Music

For some reason I only have one widget available to me. So if I add it to a specific page’s  sidebar, for instance, I lose the option to add it to another. Does this plugin only support one instance at a time? I’ve never seen that before. Please let me know.

    Thanks!

    • http://netcrunched.com/ NetCrunched

GDay OhmLab Music, Yeah, currently this plugin only supports one widget. I do received few requests about adding multiple widget and it’s in my todo list but currently I don’t have any timeline for that.

      • http://twitter.com/OhmLabMusic OhmLab Music

Too bad, I really like your plugin!! Any suggestions as to others that function as well? Yours is solid!

  • A1myrtlebeach

plugin does not work -maybe because its a genesis theme

    this is all i get
“Could not retrieve id for the specified page. Please verify correct href was passed in.”

    • http://netcrunched.com/ NetCrunched

Hi A1myrtlebeach, I’m not sure if it’s related to Genesis theme. Could you please share your facebook page if you want? I’ll try to test it at my end..

  • guest

I’m wondering if your instructions could be more intuitive for those needing more explicit directions? For example, I didn’t realize the plugin was a widget until reading these comments. Someone else might not have known to look under Settings for the screens you show above. And I’m still unsure how to insert the code into individual posts.

    • http://netcrunched.com/ NetCrunched

Thanks for suggestion. I’ll try to update instruction on plugin site and on netcrunched.

  • Sharon

    Working great in my sidebar!

I can’t get it to work in a post.

Could you please verify the code to insert into a blog post?Thank you.

    • http://netcrunched.com/ NetCrunched

Hi Sharon, Thanks for your comment. It should work same as sidebar. What error are you getting?

  • Fjcamping

    Hi!
my page name is “terreno.macizo”  and the plugin does not work with that name. I think is by the point.
Any idea to make this name works… or Am I doing something wrong??

  • Bpatine

Hi, love your widget, so easy to set up!  Is this how it is supposed to function? … If I am *not* logged in to FB when I’m viewing my wordpress.org website/blog, all I see is 3 faces of ppl who like my page.  If I *am* logged in to FB when I view my wordpress site, then all of the “like” faces show.  Is the widget functioning properly?

  • Tiago S Esteves

Hello Netcrunched. I love the simplicity of yor idea, but it doesn’s work with me:( I configure everything, save the changes, but then the like box doesn’t appear in the site! My site is surfingthetrend.com and the facebook link ishttps://www.facebook.com/pages/Surfing-The-Trend/358645624194173 I would really apreciate your help!

  • Tiago S Esteves

    My mistake, fixed!
